Education
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of education in tribal regions, and efforts are being made to address the unique challenges faced by Ekalavya Foundation. Our goal is to provide quality education that empowers tribal students to improve their livelihoods and overall well-being while preserving their cultural heritage.
Vidya Vahini :
This initiative aims to enhance life skills for students in government schools by fostering creativity and instilling strong moral values. Co-curricular and extracurricular competitions will be organized at both intra- and inter-school levels across the district.
Our Vision
Quality education support to slum dwelling children and skill development to eligible youth enabling them to transform their lives for better. Wish to see slum residents improve their economic and social wellbeing by participating in modern and emerging economic opportunities and living with dignity and honor.
Mission
- Implementing appropriate interventions for continuation of schooling and quality education for slum children.
- Providing exposure to slum students on various modern educational and economic opportunities through Career Counseling, Meet the experts program etc.
- Creating Successful Role models within the community for others to get inspired and to follow the footsteps.
- Vocational training to youth, particularly girls & women.
- Creating awareness about health, hygiene and other social aspects of their living for better living conditions and opportunities.
Vidya Vahini started as an education project in 2008 for encouraging co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in Govt. schools in Rural Areas. This program is currently operated in 170 schools across 2 Telugu States.
Apart from the education we do conduct: 1) Prathibha Puraskars, 2) Career Guidance sessions & 3) Prerana Programs
- Prathibha Purasarkars: Every year, the Vidya Vahini program recognizes the top 10th-grade students in the mandal. To build self-confidence and reduce fear, competitions like essay writing, drawing, and elocution are regularly held in government schools, with prizes given to the best participants. In 2019, 25,218 students from 230 schools took part, and 4,064 prizes were awarded.
- Career Guidance Sessions: They are directed towards students who have completed 10th grade to enhance their social awareness & help them select educational paths that align with their interests
- Prerana Programs: This program fosters communication between donors & teachers supporting Vidya Vahini by honoring & recognizing their valuable contribution
Vidya Vikasam :
The quality of education in rural villages often suffers due to factors like lack of commitment from teachers and inadequate government supervision. This situation has the potential to jeopardize the future of students. To address this, Ekalavya Foundation has undertaken an important initiative by offering supplementary education to improve the educational prospects of students.
This effort involves organizing two-hour tuition classes each day in villages where a minimum of 20 students can be gathered. These sessions emphasize essential subjects such as Mathematics, Telugu, and English. To ensure effective teaching, local senior female students with at least an intermediate level of education are selected as tutors. These tutors are given proper training, guidance, and a structured curriculum.
We also conduct: 1) Playful method of learning, 2) Tutors Training Program & 3) Assessment Tests
- Playful Method of Learning: Education will be effectively delivered to students through engaging activities such as games, sports, and songs, making it easier for them to remember and connect with the material. This approach uplifts their understanding and improves their communication skills.
- Tutor’s Training Program: Regular training sessions are held for tutors to improve their teaching methods and enhance their delivery skills. These sessions also expose them to the latest trends in playful learning, enabling them to teach students seamlessly and effectively
- Assessment Tests: Tests are conducted every two months to assess students’ learning skills. Tutors divide students into groups based on their performance, allowing them to concentrate on supporting and uplifting those in the lower group
Apart from all, Mothers’ committees are formed in every village to participate in enhancing the educational journey of their children. Through these collective efforts, the foundation seeks to elevate the quality of education and inspire positive change in rural areas.
